Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment
What is the TSI Assessment?
The TSI Assessment is placement testing to help determine if you are ready for college-level course work in reading, writing, and mathematics. If you are an incoming college student in Texas, you are required to take the TSI Assessment unless you are exempt.
What does the TSI Assessment cover?
The TSI Assessment in Reading is a 24 item, multiple choice test that measures: Literary Analysis, Main Idea and Supporting Details, Inferences in a Text(s), and Author’s Use of Language.
The TSI Assessment in Writing is an assessment that contains a multiple-choice and an essay section. The TSI Assessment in Writing multiple-choice section is a 20 item test that measures: Essay Revision, Agreement, Sentence Structure, and Sentence Logic. The essay portion asks you to write a five paragragh persuasive essay (approximately 350-500 words) on a controversial issue or one of current interest.
The TSI Assessment in Mathematics is a 20 item multiple choice test that measures: Elementary Algebra & Functions, Intermediate Algebra & Functions, Geometry & Measurement, and Data Analysis, Statistics & Probability.
