Admissions Requirements

The Bishop Lynch Admissions Committee reviews each applicant's completed file after the student/family interview. Accepted students are those that, upon evaluation and review of the file, meet ALL of the following criteria.

1.) The student has the academic ability to be successful at Bishop Lynch.

The student may exhibit this ability to succeed in honors, regular, or essentials classes; however, the essential level classes are offered only in English, Spanish, Algebra, Chemistry, and Geometry.

To determine if a student has the academic ability to succeed at Bishop Lynch, the committee reviews the application essays, standardized test scores, report card grades, and teacher recommendations.

A student who is not passing all subjects with a grade of at least 70 at the time of his/her interview may not be considered for admission.

2.) The student has a history of demonstrating appropriate motivation and effort.

A student demonstrates appropriate motivation and effort by being prepared for class, being attentive in class, and consistently completing homework.  Also, the student's grades are compatible with this or her ability.

To determine if a student meets the criteria for appropriate motivation and effort, the committee reviews the conduct/effort portion of the report card, teacher recommendations, standardized test scores, and report card grades.

3.) The student has consistently cooperated with school rules and regulations.

Cooperation with school rules and regulations includes good conduct and citizenship in the classroom, halls, playground, cafeteria, or on field trips, etc.

To determine if a student meets the criteria for cooperating with school rules and regulations, the committee reviews the conduct/effort portion of the report card, teacher recommendations, insights from the admissions interview, and observations of a student's behavior while in our building.

A student who has been suspended or asked to leave any academic environment may not be considered for admission to Bishop Lynch High School.

4.) The student treats classmates and all school personnel with respect and kindness.

To determine if a student treats classmates and all school personnel with respect and kindness, the committee reviews the conduct/effort portion of the report card, teacher recommendations, insights from the admissions interview, and observations of a student's behavior while in our building.

5.) The applicant's parent(s)/guardian treat school personnel with respect and conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates good judgment.

It is important that parents model the same positive behavior and mature conduct that the school requires from its students.  Moreover, parents must conduct themselves in a manner that is compatible with the same high expectations Bishop Lynch has for each student.

To determine if parents treat school personnel with respect and conduct themselves in a manner that demonstrates good judgement, the committee reviews the portion of the recommendations form that addresses parental cooperation, observes the parents' behavior while in our building, and considers insights from the admissions interview.
