SENIOR 2017 PARENT INFORMATION
The following are honors and privileges for our senior students of whom we are very proud. Our seniors are the leaders of our school. Any senior who, through his/her actions, fails to maintain the high standards of conduct set forth in our Student Handbook and in the expectations below, may lose the privilege of attending any or all of the following activities.

POWDER PUFF TOURNAMENT
May 16– 17, 2017
SENIOR EXEMPTION PRIVILEGE
Senior students who maintain at least a 90 average and have no more than 4 absences per semester may be exempted from final exams. Absences are not grouped for the purpose of exemptions. Each class missed counts as an absence. Seniors are allowed only two college visit days per year before they are charged with an absence. For full year courses, students may be exempted for the spring exam only.
CAP & GOWNS
Jostens measured seniors for caps and gowns in October at BL. Caps and gowns and invitation/announcement packages will be distributed during lunches during April. Students who do not pick up their graduation materials at that time, may pick them up in the Attendance Office.
Thursday, May 18, 2017 6:00 P.M. BL Atrium
Each year the Parents Association treats the Senior Class to a dinner in their honor. The dinner is a catered event, and includes entertainment by various faculty and staff members. The dinner is for the senior students ONLY, and serves as a fun and light-hearted farewell for the kids and their teachers. Seniors are to dress up. Please be sure that gentlemen wear dress shirts and slacks with closed-toe shoes (no sandals). Ladies are asked to dress modestly for the occasion. (See Dress Standard below.) Any senior who does not meet the dress standard will be denied admission to the event. (…and this is an event seniors will not want to miss!)
TUESDAY, MAY 18, 2017
Seniors have graduation practice at Bishop Lynch in the Competition gym. While they do not have to be in uniform, they must be dressed appropriately for school (no pajamas, shorts, etc.) Practice should last approximately 1 hour.
Friday, May 19, 20167 2:30 p.m., Competition Gym
The first in the graduation series of events, the Honors Convocation will take place in the Competition gym beginning at 2:30 pm. All seniors are required to attend, and all parents and families members are invited. The underclassmen will be on a half-day schedule that day and will be dismissed by 12:45 pm, allowing the parking lot to clear out. Underclassmen are not REQUIRED to attend, although they are invited if dressed appropriately. The seniors will process in, in their graduation caps and gowns, and all awards and scholarships are announced at this time.
HONOR GRADUATES AND SPEAKERS
During the spring semester, the seniors are given the opportunity to express their preferences by voting for speakers from among the top ten students in class rank through the previous seven semesters. To be eligible for selection, students must have attended Bishop Lynch High School for at least the previous three semesters. The student receiving the highest number of votes shall speak at graduation; the students with the next highest number of votes shall speak at the Baccalaureate Mass.
Saturday, May 20, 2017 7:00 p.m., St. pius catholic church
Graduates arrive no later than 6:30 p.m.
Graduates wear appropriate church attire with gown. (no graduation cap)
The Baccalaureate Mass is mandatory for all graduating seniors. The mass takes place at St. Pius X Catholic Church at 7:00 p.m. Because seating is at a premium, each senior is given only two tickets to be used by family members; the school does not have additional tickets. Space at St. Pius is extremely limited, so families are asked not to exceed the two guest policy. We realize that this is difficult for many families. Please be considerate and recognize that bringing extra people results in some graduates’ guests being unable to fit in the church. Caps and gowns must be worn and the Dress Standard, below, applies.
Sunday, May 21, 2017 3:00 p.m., Curtis Culwell center
The big day! Graduation will be held at Curtis Culwell Center in Garland beginning at 3:00 pm. Again, attendance is mandatory and students should arrive by 2:00 p.m. Each graduate will receive 20 tickets to graduation and one free parking pass for the parking lot. Parking is $8 per vehicle on premises. Free parking is available at Naaman Forest High School adjacent to the event center. Admission to graduation is by ticket only. There are a limited number of tickets and no replacement tickets, so please be very careful with them! We encourage you to communicate with other families who may not use all 20 tickets if additional tickets are needed.
The doors to Graduation open at 2:00 p.m. The ceremony begins at 3:00 p.m. Maps, House Rules, and tickets will be distributed to seniors with their cap and gown.
Girls must wear dresses, skirts, or dress pants under their gowns, while boys must wear a collared shirt with a tie. Also, boys must be clean-shaven. Graduates must wear appropriate shoes - no boots, tennis shoes, or flip-flops. Each graduate will have his/her photograph taken with diploma, by photographers from The Impressionists. A proof will be mailed home, and you will have the opportunity to order reprints. Any cell phones, purses, sunglasses that are brought into the staging room must be kept in the staging room. There will be teachers monitoring the room during the graduation ceremony. All students will be searched prior to entering the arena so please leave all contraband at home (air horns, beach balls, silly string, etc.).
*IMPORTANT CHANGES FOR CLASS OF 2016 GRADUATION*
At the graduation you will cross the stage, shake hands, and you will receive an empty diploma cover.
After the ceremony has ended the entire class will process out of the arena and return to the staging room. There will be an envelope with your name on it with your diploma. Do not leave the staging room without this envelope.
SENIOR SKIP DAY
THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS SENIOR SKIP DAY! DON’T BELIEVE IT! Seniors, like all Bishop Lynch students, are expected to be punctual and in attendance every day, except for the most serious of reasons. If your senior is unable to attend school for a serious reason, you must call the Attendance Office at x 4111 to report the absence.
Pranks are a disruption to the school and will not be tolerated. Seniors who participate in pranks risk forfeiting the senior privileges listed above.
SENIORS AND UNIFORMS
Our seniors, the leaders of our school, are expected to be in full, proper uniform through the conclusion of the very last day of school. Cutting or tearing of uniforms is unacceptable. Seniors will be permitted to sign each other’s shirts as long as what is written is appropriate. The days designated for shirt signing and the applicable rules will be announced by the Dean of Students in advance.
