BYOD Instructions for Current Students

Connecting to the BL Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) network, for CURRENT STUDENTS, is a 2 step process

Please Note:  If you are a new student (freshman or transfer) OR if you are a returning student but your BL Network password has expired, or if you're not sure whether or not it has expired, do NOT follow the wireless network instructions shown here UNTIL you have first logged in to the BL network from a wired computer (such as the computers in the library).
Current students must first change your password on a wired computer before wireless procedures will work.

Let me repeat that... ALL must first change your password on a wired computer before wireless procedures will work.

Step 1: Connect to the BLBYODSetup network and get your BLBYOD password
(one-time only, per device)

If you have an iOS device (Apple iPad/iPhone/iPod touch or similar) there’s an app to facilitate your access.  This same app will work for Android devices provided that your device is configured to accept apps from third parties (i.e. other than the Google App Marketplace).

If you have a laptop, Android, or other wireless-capable device that doesn’t play nicely with the app described above, don’t worry… it’s easy to teach your device about the BLBYOD network.

To download and install the app:

  1. Access the Network Setup Screen by pressing Settings and selecting WiFi, from your device’s “home” screen. Choose the BLBYODSetup network (ignoring any others on the list) and then open your browser (Safari).  This will cause the system to ask you to log in to the “WLAN Connection Activation” page.

Use your regular BL Network credentials to log in (your userID is your Windows login).
  2. Download and install the
Zero-IT Activation app (note:  it appears as “unsigned” and is from “Ruckus wireless”)

You may need to input your iPad passcode.

  1. Using your device’s Network Setup screen, connect to the BLBYODSetup network (ignoring any others on the list) and open your browser.  This will cause the system to ask you to log in to the “WLAN Connection Activation” page.

Use your regular BL Network credentials to log in (your userID is your Windows login).

  2. Now, instead of downloading the app, on the “WLAN Connection Activation” page, select the option to manually set up your network (small link at the bottom, reads “click here.”)

  3. The resulting page will show you your encryption key (= password).  Copy it to your device’s clipboard and/or write it down (carefully… it will have upper and lower case letters, numbers, and symbols)

Step 2: Using the custom app, or the exclusive password, generated by the Setup network, connect to the BLBYOD network

Once the app is installed, access the Network Setup Screen again by pressing Settings and selecting WiFi, from your device’s “home” screen. Choose the BLBYOD network (ignoring any others on the list).  That’s it!

Once you have the password, access your Network Setup Screen again and choose the BLBYOD network (ignoring any others on the list).  Use the password you just recorded when prompted for a password to the secured BLBYOD network. That’s it!
