Bishop Lynch High School is looking for an outstanding teacher with a passion for developing a Technical Theater program.  In addition to teaching, the Technical Director will have the responsibility for the technical operations of the McGonigle Theatre and Blackbox Theater, including lighting, sound, props, set design and construction.  Reporting to the Fine Arts Department Chair, the Technical Director is charged with teaching Technical Theater classes, tech directing productions, and working closely in collaboration with the Theater Manager, Musical/Play Directors and the Fine Arts Department Chair to promote and advance the Theatrical Arts at Bishop Lynch High School.                                                                       

Responsibilities Include:

  • Design, implement and instruct Technical Theater courses I, II, III, and IV
  • Design, set up, maintain, and operate lighting and sound systems for theater, dance, music, and other productions.
  • Organize and supervise the construction, mounting and striking of all mainstage and Blackbox productions.
  • Supervise the use of lighting, sound, communications equipment, and the use/maintenance of school facilities.
  • Model safe theater practices for faculty and students while keeping a clean, safe working environment.
  • Monitor the condition of lighting, sound and rigging equipment and maintain/repair equipment as necessary.
  • Complete all required reports, records, and documents in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a positive role model for students and supporting the school’s mission statement.
  • Participate in ongoing professional development.
  • Establish and continue communication with parents, students, administrators, and co-workers.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Fine Arts Department Chair.
  • Some evening and weekend hours are required.


Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s or Master of Arts degree in Technical Theater or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of professional theater experience or equivalent required.
  • 12 college credit hours in Education required.
  • Demonstrated competency in Theater Arts with knowledge of curriculum and instruction.
  • Understand the design aspects and construction within all areas of technical theater.
  • Extensive knowledge of lighting, equipment and theater safety practices is required.
  • Accountability for student academic growth and assessment.
  • Commitment to being a supportive, respectful, and energetic colleague.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior while maintaining a professional manner.
  • Must possess clear communication skills, strong work ethic, and excellent organizational skills.


Working Environment:

  • Ability to lift, push or pull objects up to 100 pounds using appropriate tools.
