Bishop Lynch High School is a secondary learning institution whose proven excellence in academics, arts, and athletics provides students with the opportunity to receive a first-rate, well-rounded education combined with an exciting and inspiring campus life.
Faculty And Staff Excellence
By the time students reach high school, they have learned that teachers are crucial. A good teacher helps make learning fun, and the time in class seems to go faster; a great teacher helps students fall in love with a subject, instills a passion to learn, and makes them look forward to coming to school.
BL knows that the quality of teaching – and the character of their teachers – is what makes the school truly special. Before a teacher is hired at Bishop Lynch, it must be clear that he or she fits into the culture of the community and supports the school’s mission..
Opportunities to make a difference and to succeed abound at Bishop Lynch. At BL, academics are first and foremost for every student. Bishop Lynch offers an array of honors and AP courses, as well as dual enrollment courses. If you take an AP course you can test out of college classes by scoring a 3 or better on the AP exam for that class. By taking a dual enrollment class, you can get high school credit at the same time as college credit (for no extra cost) for a class through Eastfield College.
In fact, we have more students earn college credits at BL than any other high school in the Metroplex, private or public. That translates into saving thousands of dollars in college tuition, getting a head start in college, and potentially graduating from college early.
Fine Arts Excellence
If singing, acting, painting, or playing a musical instrument sounds appealing, then Bishop Lynch is the place to be. Our choir has performed around the country, and has even travelled to Canada and Ireland. Our band competes in the TPSMEA State Marching Competition, often winning state-wide recognition for their talent. Our theater productions are renowned throughout the city. We also have numerous programs in painting, sculpture, photography, and other artistic endeavors, giving our students an abundance of creative outlets and forms of self-expression.
The athletic programs at Bishop Lynch far exceed any other private school as well as most public schools in Texas. Bishop Lynch offers 17 sports for boys and girls (including Cheerleading and Brigade). Varsity athletes compete at the highest level against other private and public schools. Each year, BL athletic teams advance to compete at the State level, with many of our young student-athletes earning national attention.
Every year the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools (TAPPS) chooses a school in Texas that best represents excellence in academics, athletics, and arts. Bishop Lynch's outstanding programs in all areas are emphasized by our ever-increasing collection of TAPPS All-Around Trophies.
BL is a very caring Christian community, one that fosters the well-being of the total person. We have a proud tradition of community service, and all students take four years of theology instruction that helps give deeper meaning to service. Last year, Bishop Lynch students performed over 38,000 hours of community service. Mass is held monthly, and all members of the school community participate. Our students grow to become servant-leaders through direct involvement with the community around them, putting the values learned through their time spent in Theology classes and Mass services into practice.
We believe that a diversified community helps foster a better learning environment, and our student body is over 20 percent non-Catholic. We do expect all students, Catholic or Non-Catholic, to internalize our mission, especially the religious aspects.
"Faithful to Catholic Tradition and to our Dominican heritage of scholarship and service, Bishop Lynch High School promotes the development of the total person by bringing together a diverse community in a rigorous, college preparatory environment where students are taught to strive for excellence, seek truth, and work for justice in the world."
